Our Doctrine - Our Doctrine

(1) We believe that the Bible, composed of the Old and the New Testaments, is verbally inspired of God, is inerrant in the original writings and is the supreme and final authority in faith and in life. (2) We believe that there is but One living and true God, eternally existing and manifesting himself to us in three persons, the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, who are the same in substance and equal in power and glory. (3) We believe in the deity of Jesus Christ, that He was begotten of the Holy Spirit, and born of the Virgin Mary, that He is true God and true man, and that He is the only and sufficient Mediator between God and Man. (4) We believe that Christ's death on the cross for our sins was substitutionary, and that whosoever believes in Him is justified on the ground of His shed blood. We believe in His bodily resurrection from the dead, in His ascension into Heaven, where He ever lives to make intercession for us, and in His premillenial return to the earth. (5) We believe that salvation is by grace, through faith, and that all who receive the Lord Jesus Christ by faith are born again of the Holy Spirit and by this birth are the children of God. (6) We believe in the divine personality of the Holy Spirit, that He is God, and that His ministry is to reveal Jesus Christ to men. His work is to convict men of sin, to regenerate, indwell, and set apart the believer to a holy life. (7) We believe that man was created in the image of God; that he sinned and thereby incurred not only physical death, but also that spiritual death which is separation from God; that all human beings are born with a sinful nature and are totally unable to save themselves by their own works, being dead in trespasses and sin. (8) We believe in the bodily resurrection of the just and unjust (the just being those who through faith are justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ, and on this basis are made truly righteous in His esteem; the unjust being those who continue in impenitence and unbelief in Christ as Savior and remain in God's sight wicked and under the curse), and that this distinction shall remain after death in the conscious eternal blessedness of the saved in Heaven, and the conscious eternal punishment of the lost in Hell. (9) We believe that the Church of Jesus Christ is a living, spiritual body of which Christ Himself is the Head and of which all regenerated people are members. We believe that the local Church is a company of believers in Jesus Christ joined together for worship, edification, fellowship, and the spread of the gospel. (10) We believe that baptism is an ordinance commanded by Christ and is the immersion of a believer in water in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit; that a believer should always reckon upon the truth of his spiritual identification with Christ in death, burial and resurrection, (death to sin and resurrection to walk in newness of life).(11) We believe that the Lord's Supper (partaking of bread and the fruit of the vine, which are symbols of Christ's body and Christ's blood shed for the remission of sin) is an ordinance commanded by Christ to be observed by believers and is a remembrance of His death until He comes again.

Middle School Youth group is a blast. We meet Fridays in the Activity Center from 7:00-9:00 PM for fun games and open gym if you want to shoot hoops. We've got a game room with pool, ping-pong and foosball. You can also get some candy or mozzarella sticks in our concession area. We also get together upstairs for worship, funny videos and teaching from the Bible. Our goal is that Middle School students know and follow Christ in a deepening way as well as experience community and fellowship with one another and older adults who can support and mentor them. It's a great place for visitors to come and get involved in our group for the first time.

We also have special events regularly like dodgeball tournaments, camping trips, winter camp and Wild Week, 5 days of Middle School craziness in June.

Sunday mornings we also gather for "Next". Next is the next step for Middle School students maturing in their faith. It's a more in-depth study of the Bible. This year we're focusing on the life of Christ. Next meets from 11:15-12:00 Sundays in Room 7 of the Activity Center.

Sunday morning is an important part of our week! We are all on a journey of faith, some just beginning and others seasoned travelers. Sunday morning is the time we gather together to praise God by singing songs and hymns, study His word and pray. We employ a variety of musical instruments in a contemporary style to express our hearts to God.

Our children and youth programs are safe and fun! Every childcare worker has had a background check. A safety system is in place that ensures you are the only person who can pick up your child. Our greeters will be happy to help you find the right class for your children. If you prefer to have your child stay with you during worship you can always listen to the service from the Cafe or use our nursery if necessary.

No person is more important than another at FCC; but some are more noticeable. Our church family is served by elders, deacons, deaconesses, and two pastors. We depend upon the Spirit’s application of God’s words in the Bible. We believe there is no comparable source of truth with the power to transform ordinary lives to the vibrancy and victory found only in Jesus Christ.

Our Values - Our Values

Christ's Headship. We acknowledge Christ as the Head of our church and submit ourselves and all of our activities to His will (Colossians 1:18). Therefore Jesus will have the supremacy in all things FCC.

Biblical Training. We acknowledge the Bible as God's authoritative word for transforming us today (2 Timothy 3:16-17). Therefore the Bible will be our guide in faith and practice to adults, youth, and children.

Worship in Spirit and Truth. We desire to exalt Jesus Christ in the breadth of biblical theology (truth) and to the depth of our innermost being (spirit) (John 4:23-24). Therefore our worship will emphasize the Savior, the Scriptures, and the surrendered heart of the worshiper.

Life-in-Christ Together. We will encourage people to share their life-in-Christ with other Christians (1 Peter 4:8). Therefore we will ask every member to commit to a Home Meeting.

People Matter to God. We acknowledge God's love for the world and His desire that all people should have a personal faith in Jesus Christ (1 Timothy 2:3-6). Therefore we will take the gospel to unconvinced people in our community and support missionaries who will go farther.

Maturing Members. We seek to present every person complete in Jesus Christ (Colossians 1:28-29). Therefore we will seek to involve every person in a process of discipleship, mentoring, or coaching.

Committed Congregation. We will encourage people to find a place of service in the church according to their divine design (Ephesians 4:11-16). Therefore we will ask every member to complete the PLACE Workshop and meet with a shepherd to discover the best place for them to volunteer themselves to God.

Like flowers, faith requires nurturing to thrive. The Women's ministry of Faith Community Church seeks to cultivate and nurture biblical faith through Bible studies, mentoring and fellowship. Our Bible Studies run from September to May. We offer morning and evening studies that vary from weekly to bi-weekly.

Faith Community Church's roots lie in a Ukrainian Baptist church founded in Chester, PA in the 1920's, pastored by Paul Bartkow, Sr. With services steeped in the traditions of the old country, the church provided a secure base for its newly transplanted immigrant congregation. Before long though, the young people of the church became dissatisfied with the backward-looking stance. They felt God was calling them to relate more fully to American culture. So in 1948, the pastor's son, Danny Bartkow, started a new English speaking church which met in borrowed facilities. Crum Lynn Baptist Church, as it was called, flourished. The church became known for solid biblical teaching, a vibrant music ministry, and its appeal to youth. By the 1950's Crum Lynn Baptist was bulging at the seams. It was time to plan for a larger, more permanent facility. Property was purchased on Edgmont Avenue in Brookhaven, PA and the church changed its name to better identify with its new community. The cornerstone of the new church building was laid in 1956, and by the end of that year, the congregation moved into the still unfinished building. With great faith, extensive volunteer labor, and sacrificial financial commitment, church members and friends put all the finishing touches in place, and the new building was finally completed in 1961. Many changes have occurred at Faith Community Church since that first Sunday, of course: changes in leadership, in ministry programs, in church government, and even the name of the church to Faith Community Church. But, one thing remains the same: the desire to share God’s love with others! Come be part of Faith’s exciting future!
